As
a special education teacher, I am usually on the lookout for high high
quality educational games that will hold the eye of my students. My
biggest issue is I have a wide range of developmental levels inside my
classroom. This makes it hard will shop around for games. Not solely do I
have to think around the kids this year but I also have to think about
the kids in the near future years.
Here is what I look for in games:
Settings:
o Can the sound be very easily turned on and off?
o Can the music be switched on and off separate from the sound?
o Can the brightness be modified?
Levels:
o Can difficult be changed quickly for different students?
o Can students pick up with level they completed?
o Are rewards given for performing levels?
o Are there incentives for developing?
Players:
o Is the game single gambler or multiple players?
o How are the characters pictured on the screen?
I
want the games to possibly be inviting for the students where the
children will want to play the games. The graphics and sound need to
attract the children in and keep the attention without being to
stimulating. For this reason it is important that the medicine be able
to turn off. Not all the children can handle the vocals. Therefore, it
must be able to simply turn off for some children though be readily
available to stimulate different children without me having to discover
how to turn it back on.
iPhone/ iTouch Games for Education
At
first, I had a little concern about my students using these handheld
games for educational requirements. As I said before, I 'm a special
education teacher and my learners tend to be egocentric as it truly is.
Giving them a handheld game, I was afraid could only thrust them deeper
into their particular world.
However, I discovered they became
more vocal and picked up skills very quickly. They loved singing along
with a number of the songs and playing the games. Of course, it is too
soon to tell if it translates into anything more, nonetheless they do
make sounds and that will be progress.
